Bad fucking news, y'all.

Meloni has decided to close his web site.

The only thing remaining on http://www.christopher-meloni.com is this:

July 18, 2009

Chris has decided to close his web site.

He would like to thank everyone for their interest and support over the past ten years and he hopes that you enjoyed the site during that time.

Chris will retain ownership of the domain name, but will not be establishing another presence on the internet, including on services such as Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

~

Everything's gone! BOOO!
That seems like such a... DUMB ASS move. I mean, the internet is... where it's at! Am I wrong?! It's practically free publicity.

Bleh.

~

On the Unofficial CM Forum, Brian (CM.com's webmaster) posted this:

Chris has decided to close his web site. I've removed all the files and put a notice on the first page. Personally, I think it was time. There has been little or no update activity and when I spoke with Chris we determined that the site had reached the end of it's useful life. It was a good ten years.

~

Ummm. Yeah, he's correct that it's not useful if it's not updated. True stories.

I think it would have been *useful* to keep the 'Ask Chris' section, and perhaps some bare bones information about his acting background and filmography. There were also a lot of scans of articles published eight or nine years ago that are a lot harder to find now.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] fanfromfla has an excellent suggestion about using the Internet Wayback Machine to access some of the pages from the site. Scroll down for her comment, and the links.

Wow. I wonder what happened. That's sad news to me.

Oh, snap. It's everything gone: the pictures, the "Ask Chris" archive...That sucks.

I WONDER WHY? Who has control over that, Brian? HMM? Yeah, you think on that.

HAH! I love what the link was changed to. FOR REALS.

I'll go get my love elsewhere, then. *eyes*

Well, that sucks.

Fans should scurry to the Internet Archive "Wayback Machine" (http://web.archive.org) and save what pages they are able to, like Chris' words about Lee, which is Linked here (http://web.archive.org/web/20061105041404/http://www.christopher-meloni.com/faq/tergesen.shtml). I may just repost this somewhere at LT.info.

the wayback machine...

would just bookmarking it work? cuz the site would vanish no?
I guess im asking, in order to really save it, would I have to save it as a word document?

Sometimes things in the Wayback Machine vanish. Especially images.

You can save it in many ways. probably best to save as an HTML document so you retain the formatting. You could cut-and-paste into another document too. Whatever works for you!

Thanks for the suggestion!
I just recovered some pages from former ChrisMeloni.com using Wayback Machine.

Coincidently, in one of those pages, I saw an answer for an old curiosity of mine: if Meloni was aware about fanfiction related to Keller and Beccher.

This was his response:

Chris says that he's aware of and has read "very little" of the fan fiction written about the characters he plays; he has no idea what's written, but has no discomfort with or feeling about any of it (Mar 2 2000; Nov 16 2004). As a viewer, Chris has found "Beecher's journey" and the "Beecher/Keller relationship" the most interesting on Oz (May 5 2000).

And another thing:

There has been little or no update activity

How is that even possible with Chris working *constantly*?

Oh, that's too bad. I hope it wasn't anything other than just losing interest and having no time to do proper updates.

thanks for the link, love to read what Chris said about Lee, that's such a shame they have to remove all the files.

Damn!

I had barely found that site last summer... and as I was filled with boredom and lethargic from my wisdom tooth removal surgery (even after) I read every single page of the "ask chris" section... haha it went to page 100 backwards to about 44 or so... so much information that I read all of... sure i scanned scan but went back to read it.

This sorta ruined my day... good thing i found out about it so late, haha... I'm off to go read some of [livejournal.com profile] blackchaps' fic to help my mood...

I'm goin to miss that site. I'll save what i can tho =] thanks [livejournal.com profile] fanfromfla

Definitely! WTPiss, Chris? Huh...odd...but yeah, had it actually been *updated* more often, maybe it would still have some 'usefulness'. Pity pity.

Truly.

I have a rant inside me, but I can't seem to spill it out right now. I keep typing and deleting. But, yeah, what Trillingstar said: Focus on the thing that makes the official site special: Ask Chris. Make that the centerpiece, and frame it with a useful outline of his career that is *updated* when Chris is about to appear in something new.

You'd think with all his millions, Chris could afford to *pay* a Webmaster who would maintain a professional-quality site that would serve him and his fans. Not having an Internet presence at all seems dumb in this day and age.

NOOOOO..it was such a great place to read about him! All of his witty answers are GONE?? CHRIS What are you DOING? Oh damn! Who the heck is gonna get the message to him that his fans are not happy?? I KNOW he has a busy life, but surely his publicist could have given it an hour a month???

OMGGGG I just discovered the site only like a couple weeks ago. I read through like most of everything but still NOOOOOO. This is so upsetting.

I am sad and kinda frustrated. He seems to have no business sense whatsoever. I agree that he can well afford to have a website that is frequently updated and should. He is not on Twitter like many other stars.....He resigns for SVU even though his talent is wasted there. He accepts roles in whatever crap B movies he is offered (Carriers). What is wrong with him??????? Is he trying to kill his own career? Grrrrrrr. If I wasn't so obsessed with him none of this would bother me so much. I want to see more of him and I want him to succeed but for some reason he doesn't know how to.

I can understand not wanting to update it anymore, but there was *tons* of information on there! All those images, and Ask Chris answers, and his acting background...it just seems like a waste.

Yes, he and I broke up, but I still care. Webmaster Brian worked really hard on it...*deleting everything* from the site seems rather harsh!

Fortunately, on the day before the site was closed, I dowloaded all the pages of Ask Chris section to read later on my iPod.

thats quite ridiculous. i'm shocked that he wanted to do that. i mean, what if someone has just started watching oz or just seen a film with him in it etc and they look him up? it doesnt matter that its not been updated in a long time, there will always be new people that havent read it and old fans that will want to re-read it. what a selfish thing to do. maybe hes become like a scientology or something and thinks the internet is evil. or thinks hes so famous now he clearly doesnt need a website.
