**BREAKING NEWS**
Jul. 18th, 2009 10:15 pmBad fucking news, y'all.
Meloni has decided to close his web site.
The only thing remaining on http://www.christopher-meloni.com is this:
July 18, 2009
Chris has decided to close his web site.
He would like to thank everyone for their interest and support over the past ten years and he hopes that you enjoyed the site during that time.
Chris will retain ownership of the domain name, but will not be establishing another presence on the internet, including on services such as Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Everything's gone! BOOO!
That seems like such a... DUMB ASS move. I mean, the internet is... where it's at! Am I wrong?! It's practically free publicity.
Bleh.

On the Unofficial CM Forum, Brian (CM.com's webmaster) posted this:
Chris has decided to close his web site. I've removed all the files and put a notice on the first page. Personally, I think it was time. There has been little or no update activity and when I spoke with Chris we determined that the site had reached the end of it's useful life. It was a good ten years.
~
Ummm. Yeah, he's correct that it's not useful if it's not updated. True stories.
I think it would have been *useful* to keep the 'Ask Chris' section, and perhaps some bare bones information about his acting background and filmography. There were also a lot of scans of articles published eight or nine years ago that are a lot harder to find now.

Date: 2009-07-19 03:10 am (UTC)Fans should scurry to the Internet Archive "Wayback Machine" (http://web.archive.org) and save what pages they are able to, like Chris' words about Lee, which is Linked here (http://web.archive.org/web/20061105041404/http://www.christopher-meloni.com/faq/tergesen.shtml). I may just repost this somewhere at LT.info.
the wayback machine...
Date: 2009-07-19 05:34 am (UTC)I guess im asking, in order to really save it, would I have to save it as a word document?
Re: the wayback machine...
Date: 2009-07-19 01:56 pm (UTC)You can save it in many ways. probably best to save as an HTML document so you retain the formatting. You could cut-and-paste into another document too. Whatever works for you!

Date: 2009-07-25 07:40 pm (UTC)I just recovered some pages from former ChrisMeloni.com using Wayback Machine.
Coincidently, in one of those pages, I saw an answer for an old curiosity of mine: if Meloni was aware about fanfiction related to Keller and Beccher.
This was his response:
Chris says that he's aware of and has read "very little" of the fan fiction written about the characters he plays; he has no idea what's written, but has no discomfort with or feeling about any of it (Mar 2 2000; Nov 16 2004). As a viewer, Chris has found "Beecher's journey" and the "Beecher/Keller relationship" the most interesting on Oz (May 5 2000).

How is that even possible with Chris working *constantly*?

Date: 2009-07-19 05:57 am (UTC)Definitely! WTPiss, Chris? Huh...odd...but yeah, had it actually been *updated* more often, maybe it would still have some 'usefulness'. Pity pity.

Date: 2009-07-19 02:06 pm (UTC)Truly.
I have a rant inside me, but I can't seem to spill it out right now. I keep typing and deleting. But, yeah, what Trillingstar said: Focus on the thing that makes the official site special: Ask Chris. Make that the centerpiece, and frame it with a useful outline of his career that is *updated* when Chris is about to appear in something new.
You'd think with all his millions, Chris could afford to *pay* a Webmaster who would maintain a professional-quality site that would serve him and his fans. Not having an Internet presence at all seems dumb in this day and age.

Date: 2009-07-19 05:57 pm (UTC)WORD.
I tried not to say too much in the post and hoped that the flavoring came through. Although it's pretty much the same rant as that one we already shared, only with a few more 'asshats' thrown in. *rolls eyes*
You'd think one of his assistants or his publicist's assistants or manager's assistants or however that works could find five minutes to shoot off an email to a paid webmaster who could in turn update... even if it's only tv/movie/charity appearances.
Oops, some of the rant slipped out. Meh.
