Do you remember that super-awesome stage reading that Lee was supposed to do with Dean Winters last August at the Williamstown Theatre Festival? The one written by Tom Fontana? But then Lee had to drop out at the last minute due to scheduling conflcts? I certainly do. Probably because I cried for three days. (But then PaLeeyFest happened and all was right with the world. *clappyhands* *SQUEE*)

Well, anyway, the GOOD NEWS is that they're doing it again! In NYC this time! Yay!

The BAD NEWS is that it is on Monday, January 29! Just 5 (yes, count'em FIVE) days away!

Yeesh. I guess "advance notification" is a hazy concept to some people.

Here's the description of the play, taken from The Acting Company's website:

The website has a link to buy tickets, which are only $10. Unfortunately, the cheapest flight to NYC from where I live is $742. Because it's only FIVE days away.

Nevertheless, a few of Lee's more-local peeps are trying to make it happen, so there might be a LeeFest in the works.

And, hey, it's super-interesting that they're doing it again, dontcha think? Like, maybe this is a project that might have some legs to it? *fingerscrossed*

In other Lee-awareness news, I recently discovered that someone has uploaded to YouTube all 13 episodes of Lee's 2005 TV show "Wanted," where he played the legendary, snarky, sexy Eddie Drake. Seriously, Lee never looked hotter than he did on this show:

wanted8

*RAWR*

Note: Lee is not in the first/pilot episode--his role was added after it had been filmed because they thought the show needed more humor. *ENTER EDDIE* (but not in that way)

Several Ozzies made guest-appearances, too! If you never had the opportunity to watch Wanted before, NOW YOU CAN. And SHOULD. Because Lee is SUPER HOT in this show. (Maybe I already mentioned that.)

OH, and don't forget to watch Meloni's show "Happy!" tonight on Syfy! Just two epsiodes left! This show is weeeeeird, but good! I think? It's certainly different. Lots of drug, sex, and violence. It's definitely nice to see Meloni and the Ass of Life in NSFW sex scenes:

Chris is scheduled to appear at NY Comic Con this Saturday to promote "Happy!", his new show on SyFy that premieres on December 6. He will be part of a panel that includes Grant Morrision (the author of the graphic novel on which the show is based) and executive producers Brian Taylor and Patrick MacManus. A world premiere screening of the "Happy!" pilot is also scheduled to take place.

In conjunction with that appearance, a new (longer) trailer for the series has been released:

Any show that references Meloni's penis sounds promising. :D

Time for an update!

Season 2 of the sequel to "Wet Hot American Summer" (which has morphed into "WHAS: Ten Years Later") is now available on Netflix! Chris Meloni appears as Gene in 4 of the 8 episodes, and a refrigerator once again plays a role (as does a can of vegetables):

Much more Meloni news here behind the cut! )

Whew! OK, enough about Meloni! On to LeeEEEeee!

In all the excitement of the recent Oziversary Fest, I missed that HBO's website posted a new interview with Lee (and another with Dean Winters) discussing Oz's 20th anniversary. Both interviews are fascinating, Lee's particularly so. Check them out!

Lee Tergesen Sees Horror and Romance in Oz
Dean Winters on the Lessons That Still Ring True

Some of the most notable quotes from Lee's interview:

  • The funny thing is, when I was in my early 20s, I used to get drunk and get naked in bars all the time, and now all of a sudden I was going to be paid to get naked -- I was like, alright.

  • So many people have said to me that [the B/K] relationship, as twisted and weird as it was, gave them courage to be truthful about who they were. To have that kind of impact on somebody means a lot. Also, I got propositioned. I couldn’t tell you how many people wanted to have sex with me.

  • All of a sudden people would have religious beliefs that kept them from showing their penis. Chris Meloni and I were always trying to do the thing that hadn’t been done. There was excitement, like, “I’m the one who gets to bite the d**k off.”

  • The scene started and I realize I’m about to get on my knees and blow this guy on screen -- I gotta get out of here now. I start to make my way out and just as I’m getting to the door, I hear the scene play and the crowd goes apes**t.

(LOL at HBO's website feeling the need to censor the words "dick" and "shit")

Also, as a reminder, Lee and Dean are going to perform a stage reading of a new Tom Fontana play ("Screenplay by Stalin") on August 18 at the Williamstown (MA) Theatre Festival. (I previously posted details HERE.) Austin Pendleton (Oz's William Giles) was also recently added to the cast. Myself, [livejournal.com profile] tobyfan, [livejournal.com profile] miltil,  and [livejournal.com profile] shabby86 are all planning to SQUEEeeeEEE be there. We have extra tickets, so if anyone wants to make some last-minute arrangements to join us, that would be OZSOME. The more, the merrier!

The "Funny or Die" parody site has a "trailer" for a fake new movie called The Kellyanne Conway Story, and the role of Donald Trump is played by... wait for it... Chris Meloni!

It's pretty awesome! ETA: There are a total of 4 Trump videos. You can check them all out at their website HERE.

In addition, there's been some recent activity in the world of "Happy!", Meloni's new show on SyFy. EW.com has a short story about the show HERE, where a producer describes it as "A Christmas Carol meets Pulp Fiction," LOL. The show is scheduled to premiere in the fall. Here's a new promo still that was included in the article:

In addition, on Saturday, Meloni is going to appear at the San Diego Comic-Con as part of a panel promoting the show (details can be found in the EW story), so there should be even more info about the show coming out from that.

A 2017 Leefest (with bonus Dean and Tom) is in the works! Maybe!

It all started when I found this bit o'news about the Williamstown (Massachusetts) Theatre Festival at Broadwayworld.com:

Lee Tergesen and Dean Winters have joined the SCREENPLAY BY STALIN reading (August 18).

Which, whaaaattt??? O_O

After some digging, I discovered that Tom Fontana has written a new play, Screenplay By Stalin, and Lee and Dean are doing a one-time stage-reading of it on Friday, August 18 as part of the legendary Williamstown Theatre Festival! (If you're not familiar with Fontana's background, working with this festival years ago is how he first met actress Blythe Danner, who introduced him to husband Bruce Paltrow, who then hired him for St. Elsewhere, and the rest is history.)

So, how cool would it be to see this? Answer: VERY COOL!

This is the play's summary: "Vasili and Fyodor have been hired for a very important project; they just need a little more time -- and vodka -- to complete it."

(Presumably, Lee and Dean would be reading the parts of Vasilij and Fyodor.)

Tickets are free (a $5 donation is suggested) and can be be purchased/reserved HERE. The auditorium where it's taking place seats 285, but I have no idea how popular these readings are and how fast tickets will go. [livejournal.com profile] tobyfan, [livejournal.com profile] shabby86, [livejournal.com profile] miltil, and myself have all reserved tickets, although I think everyone's plans are still up in the air. While the tickets are free, Williamstown is a tiny town in the middle of nowhere northwestern Massachusetts, and a trip there would involve a not-inconsequential monetary commitment for transportation, lodging, etc. But still! It's really, REALLY tempting, with the presence of Tom and Dean making it moreso.

***
In other Lee news, he is making another appearance as Blake Morrow in the next episode of Cinemax's Outcast (the first one I pic-spammed HERE). The WEIRD thing is, the second season of Outcast is currently ONLY airing internationally on Fox. It's not yet being shown in the US, and there is no announced premiere date at the moment. So, I guess check your local listings for date/time if you're outside the US, and if you're in the US stay tuned!

Here is a sneak peak of Lee taken from the Twitter account of Outcast on Fox (@outcastfox). Check out his southern accent!

I like his hat! It makes him look slightly less pychotic!

So, for the last two days, Chris has been running the media gauntlet to promote his new film "Snatched," opening this Friday. Here is a handy-dandy reference guide to what he did!

Chris Meloni has a supporting role in the new comedic film "Snatched," which opens in theaters this Friday, May 12 (although I know that my local theater has showings beginning Thursday evening). The film stars Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer as a mother and daughter who must "work through their differences to escape from a wildly outrageous and dangerous jungle adventure." Chris plays a local guide who assists them.

An official trailer:

There's also a sneak peek of a scene with Chris posted at the film's Facebook page HERE (posted April 26). A screencap:

Chris is making several appearances in NYC this week to promote the film. This morning, he was on The Today Show:

Tonight, Chris will be on NBC's "The Late Show with Seth Myers" at 12:35 AM ET, and tomorrow night he will be on Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live" at 11:00 PM ET (which Twitter is also scheduled to live-stream). Patti Lupone (Oz's Stella Coffa) will be on WWHL with him, so I'm hoping there will be plenty of Oz talk! Chris is also doing multiple satellite radio interviews--I will update this post with links if they become available.

In addition, the Season 2 finale of Underground" airs this Wednesday night. WGN America has not yet announced whether or not the show will be returning for a third season.

Thanks to Twitter's @marchriska for the alerts to these appearances by Chris.

What the heck, internet? IMDB, Google alerts, and The Man (The Legend!) himself all neglected to inform me that Lee was guest-starring on an episode of NBC's "Blindspot" last night. Luckily, NBC is streaming the episode HERE on their website.

It was your typical good guys/bad guys TV stuff, but Lee had some deliciously snarky lines during his now-traditional interrogation scene...

And I am seriously indebted to the show's cameramen for their excellent HD close-up work...

Also, in case you were wondering, the cast of "Underground" attended New York's Comic Con last weekend, but Meloni was a no-show, even though he'd previously been announced as one of the attendees. During the panel Q&A, an audience member asked where he was, and they said that he was unable to be there due to Hurricane Matthew. Which... was in the south. And he was in Connecticut. But okay.

On Wednesday night, Lee attended a special showing of his indie film "Desert Cathedral" in NYC. LJ's very own [livejournal.com profile] miltil and [livejournal.com profile] shabby86 were both there and met Lee, who was (as you'd expect) an absolute sweetheart. Here are a couple of photos of Lee taken by [livejournal.com profile] miltil, posted with her permission:

(^^ this one is his superhero pose :D)

By all accounts, the film is great (albeit sad, given its premise), and Lee is wonderful in it, with a lot of screentime. The movie is scheduled to be released on VOD next Tuesday, Sep. 27.

Lee mentioned to them that he will soon be working on the television show "Power," which is a crime drama on the STARZ channel about a NYC drug ring. (Rapper 50 cent is a producer.) He also said that he would be reprising his role on "Outcast" in another appearance. (YESSS)

And, just a reminder, Lee will also appear tonight on HBO's "High Maintenance" at 11:00 pm ET.

ALSO...

(there's been so much Lee news lately, poor Meloni has been neglected!)

Chris Meloni is currently filming Season 2 of "Underground" in Savannah, Georgia. And on October 9, HE is going to be in NYC to visit Lee appear at New York Comic Con! He is scheduled to be part of a panel discussion and audience Q&A session alongside other Underground cast members. Details are HERE. There have been a lot of little things happening in the World of Lee lately, so I figured this was a good time for an update!

(1) First and foremost is exciting news about the movie "Desert Cathedral"! It is finally going to be released on VOD on September 27! (Keep in mind that the bulk of this movie was filmed way back in 2011.) I've been anxious to see this movie ever since I heard about Lee's nude scene how good it is!

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL. As part of the build-up to the release (heh), Lee will be attending a special theatrical showing of the film in NYC on September 21! Afterwards, there will be a Q&A with Lee and the movie's writer/director, Travis Gutiérrez Senger. More information at this link, including a trailer with new footage of Lee that wasn't included in previous trailers:

If you're a peep living near NYC, go meet Lee!

Last night, I was doing my usual stalking sleuthing when I discovered this gem of a photo posted to Instagram (via diego.aguirre.actor):

lee devilman

(LOOK AT THAT HAIR)

Upon further investigation, I discovered that Lee had participated in a stage reading Monday night for a new play titled "The Devilman," written by Adam Seidel. The reading was one of series put on by the IATI Theater, whose mission is to "perform and promote our contemporary Latino heritage through full productions in theater, music and dance, as well as staged readings and workshops." Their play readings include "a talkback with the playwright, director, actors and guests that focuses on audience reaction and constructive feedback to bring the new work closer to a fully-realized production."

Actors Aldo Uribe (the guy in the white t-shirt) and Jeffrey Parrillo (on the far right) read two of the other characters in the play. The guy between them is Aldo's friend Diego, who attended the reading and posted the pic.

The play's snynopsis:
Before Henry Wallace can leave the dusty Mexican town he’s been hiding out in, he needs to bury the body of a beautiful young girl. Guided by Felipe, the owner of the town’s general store, Henry embarks on a journey into the desert: a journey of truth and self-discovery, ultimately leading to a chance at redemption.

It stands to reason that Lee read the part of Henry, who sounds like the main character in the play. Outlaw!Lee would be absolutely mesmerizing, I'm sure. :D

In terms of an actual production, all I could find was this reference that indicates it will take place at the Miranda Theatre in NYC in 2017. Which is obviously a long way off, and a lot of things can happen in the meantime. BUT it's something to keep an eye on. (Hmm, a potential LeeFest? I'm gonna go ahead and coin the phrase "DevilFest" right now!)

****
AND, Good News on the "Underground" front! Chris's new show on WGN America was just renewed for a second season! Filming is supposed to commence this summer, with the episodes to air sometime in 2017. I know I've pimped this show before, but it really is incredibly good. It started off strong, and then got even better (unlike a lot of other shows), and Meloni's performance has been great. According to tvline.com, the Season 1 finale airs Wednesday, May 11 at 10 pm ET, preceded by an all-season marathon at 1 pm. Check it out if you can!

ETA: And now, Netflix has announced a second season of the TV version of "Wet Hot American Summer," this one set ten years AFTER the original movie. The announcement does not include the names of the actors who will be returning, but I know Chris has mentioned how much he enjoys working on this, so I'd expect him to be participating in some way.

In addition, "I Am Wrath," the movie with John Travolta that Chris filmed last spring, is now available On Demand (Amazon Video, iTunes, etc.). Apparently, it also has a theatrical release date of May 13, but exactly where isn't clear.

Finally, in other exciting Chris news, he finally shaved that ridiculous beard thing he had going on:

This Friday (April 29) at 8:00 pm ET, you will be able to listen to Lee on the podcast "DysfunctionalPodcast.com," where he will talk about... something. His appearance on the upcoming show "Outcast" maybe? (It's not clear what they'll be discussing exactly, but the podcast has an "explicit content" advisory, so that's a good sign. :D)

Things have been relatively quiet on the Lee-front lately, so it'll be nice to get an update about what he's been up to. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] macaroncey for this discovery!

ETA: OMG, even GQ has weighed in on Chris's goatee situation:

As far as the taxonomy of goatees goes, Christopher Meloni is firmly in full-blown bushman territory, a level of overgrowth and burliness that is not recommended for the faint of heart. In fact, a goatee — of any taxonomical kind — is not something that we here at GQ feel is beneficial addition to a man's face in the year 2016. Despite a general nostalgia for all things '90s-related, not advised.

But then there's this. Chris Meloni just earned himself a lifetime pass to any sort of goatee mandates we henceforth proclaim. This monstrous badass of a goatee is not to be f*cked with and adheres to no rules. We'll even turn a blind eye to the paisley blazer (with contrast lapels) and the embroidered placket on the shirt. It's forgiven, Chris! A goatee of this caliber is a panacea for all sartorial ills you can muster. When you've got a goatee this prolific, it trumps all.

Respect the goatee. Honor the goatee. Admire the goatee. Just don't grow one yourself.

So, as you may remember, last summer Lee's indie flick "Desert Cathedral" had a showing at the Lower East Side Film Festival in New York City. ([livejournal.com profile] tobyfan attended and later went out to dinner with Lee, which she recapped at her Meeting Lee website.) I just discovered a short interview with Lee that was recorded there and posted to YouTube. (Hey, maybe [livejournal.com profile] tobyfan is in the background?) Even though it's a several months old, it's always fun to watch Lee. :)

In more recent news, "Equity," another indie movie that Lee filmed during the summer, has been accepted into the Dramatic Competition at the annual Sundance Film Festival taking place in Utah at the end of the month. Judging by the IMDB credits, Lee's role appears to be a small one, so it's not clear whether he'd be attending.

Last week, Chris attended the 2016 Winter TCAs to promote his new series about the underground railroad, "Underground." (Meloni plays a bounty hunter.) The show premieres March 9 on the cable station WGN America. Story here at Deadline. OK, there's a story at Deadline, but apparently LiveJournal blocks links to Deadline as spam (!?!) (which is REALLY WEIRD, LJ, 'cause it's a legit industry website that's probably been around longer than you have), so I guess you'll just have to Google the link if you're interested in reading it. pffft

There has been SO MUCH Meloni in the media these last few days, but also some Lee news and even leeloni stuff, so I'm gonna break it down into separate posts.

Chris did a round of interviews in New York earlier this week to promote his new indie film "Diary of a Teenage Girl," in which he has a small but important role. The movie opened in LA and NYC last Friday, and is scheduled to gradually expand into more theaters across the country. He is also promoting the WHAS prequel AND has just finished filming the new series "Underground," which is scheduled to air on WGN America in early 2016.

So, here are the highlights from his media blitz...

About a month ago, [livejournal.com profile] tobyfan attended a screening of Lee's movie "Desert Cathedral" where she visited with Lee and went out to dinner with him. She has written a recap of the night (her FIFTEENTH Lee encounter!) and posted it to the Meeting Lee site. Go read! It's awesome! Lee's awesome!

ALSO, I happened to check Lee's IMDB page, and it looks like he's going to be in a new indie film called "Equity." (IMDB indicates that it's currently fliming.) The movie stars Anna Gunn (Skylar White from "Breaking Bad") as "an investment banker threatened by a financial scandal. She untangles a web of corruption, which forces her to re-examine the rules of the cutthroat world she has always loved." It's described as the first female-driven Wall Street film. Lee plays "Randall," whom I'm guessing has a little something to do with the plot's corruption and cutthroatiness.

Stories about the film here and here (no mention of Lee--he must have only recently been cast). It has a projected release date of Summer 2016.

Last Friday night, Lee attended an interactive theater show based upon the 1991 Keanu Reeves movie "Point Break." Lee played the role of Rosie in the original movie, which was his big break into the business.

A local NYC station did a news report on the show and interviewed Lee as part of their story. You can watch the video and read their report at their website here.

Here are a couple of screencaps of Lee taken from the video:
