Time for an update!

Season 2 of the sequel to "Wet Hot American Summer" (which has morphed into "WHAS: Ten Years Later") is now available on Netflix! Chris Meloni appears as Gene in 4 of the 8 episodes, and a refrigerator once again plays a role (as does a can of vegetables):

Much more Meloni news here behind the cut! )

Whew! OK, enough about Meloni! On to LeeEEEeee!

In all the excitement of the recent Oziversary Fest, I missed that HBO's website posted a new interview with Lee (and another with Dean Winters) discussing Oz's 20th anniversary. Both interviews are fascinating, Lee's particularly so. Check them out!

Lee Tergesen Sees Horror and Romance in Oz
Dean Winters on the Lessons That Still Ring True

Some of the most notable quotes from Lee's interview:

  • The funny thing is, when I was in my early 20s, I used to get drunk and get naked in bars all the time, and now all of a sudden I was going to be paid to get naked -- I was like, alright.

  • So many people have said to me that [the B/K] relationship, as twisted and weird as it was, gave them courage to be truthful about who they were. To have that kind of impact on somebody means a lot. Also, I got propositioned. I couldn’t tell you how many people wanted to have sex with me.

  • All of a sudden people would have religious beliefs that kept them from showing their penis. Chris Meloni and I were always trying to do the thing that hadn’t been done. There was excitement, like, “I’m the one who gets to bite the d**k off.”

  • The scene started and I realize I’m about to get on my knees and blow this guy on screen -- I gotta get out of here now. I start to make my way out and just as I’m getting to the door, I hear the scene play and the crowd goes apes**t.

(LOL at HBO's website feeling the need to censor the words "dick" and "shit")

Also, as a reminder, Lee and Dean are going to perform a stage reading of a new Tom Fontana play ("Screenplay by Stalin") on August 18 at the Williamstown (MA) Theatre Festival. (I previously posted details HERE.) Austin Pendleton (Oz's William Giles) was also recently added to the cast. Myself, [livejournal.com profile] tobyfan, [livejournal.com profile] miltil,  and [livejournal.com profile] shabby86 are all planning to SQUEEeeeEEE be there. We have extra tickets, so if anyone wants to make some last-minute arrangements to join us, that would be OZSOME. The more, the merrier!

Last Friday, Lee appeared in an episode of Cinemax's new series "Outcast," and he was AMAZING. Even more AMAZINGER than usual! I have recapped his performance via a mega pic spam HERE at my LJ. Come join the squee!

Cinemax posted this short behind-the-scenes video from Lee's episode in which the show's producer and lead actors sing his praises. WARNING: the vid includes brief glimpses of gore (which I intentionally left out of my pic spam, BTW).

I particuarly liked this quote from Patrick Fugit, who plays the main character: "Lee is awesome. He's very real and raw. Like a lot of actors that are very, very good, they have, like, a natural sort of mania and intensity. He's got it."

Hey, that's my favorite Lee! Real, raw, manic, and instense. *G*

Speaking of Patrick, he took a couple of beautiful photos of Lee taking a break between scenes and posted them to his Instagram:

I also found this amazing production still posted to Twitter:

Poor crazy!Toby. *pets him*

Whooops, wrong show!

Aaaand, if you're looking for a change of pace after this, I noticed that Lee's movie spoof "Tooken" was recently added to Netflix and is now available for streaming. Go watch Lee being goofy!

Rolling Stone has an great new story about the making of the Bohemian Rhapsody scene in "Wayne's World."

waynes world

Rolling Stone story on Wayne's World

It's presented in the form of an oral history and includes several quotes from Lee, such as:

Lee Tergesen ("Terry"): When we had the first read-through there were just four guys in the car: Dana [Carvey], Mike, Sean and Michael DeLuise. But I went up to Mike after the read through and said, "If there's any way I can be in the back of that car, this was my childhood. I grew up in Connecticut, rocking out in cars." And literally, the next draft came out two days later and I was in the fucking back seat. It blew my mind.

(When I first read "I was in the fucking back seat," I thought it said, "I was fucking in the back seat." Which would have been a totally different kind of movie, but just as awesome. *g*)

.... from the writer/director of "The Collection," courtesy of an interview with the website Dread Central:

Dread Central: Well, I thought both Josh and Emma were fantastic in this but I have to admit that the one name that excited me most of all (because I'm a huge 90's action fan) was Lee Tergesen from Point Break. He was really fun in The Collection, too; his character felt very throwback-ish, like he was out of a Segal movie or something.

Marcus Dunstan: He's so great; he trained for an incredibly long time with the stunt guys for the knife fight. We had a stunt guy ready to go and Mr. Tergesen was like, "No way, this is my moment and I'm doing it!" so every moment I would happen to turn around, I'd see him off in the corner with the stunt guy ramming those knives and learning how to work it.

So we wanted to justify why he'd pick a knife over a traditional weapon like a gun; at one point, he does use a weapon but that's only when he loses control of the environment or he gets good and pissed off. It was great to see a knifesman take on a knifesman in this. There's even a longer version of that fight, for like two and a half minutes, where you really get to see them go at it.

Has anyone seen the movie?  Horror movies are not really my thing, but I would consider renting the DVD when it comes out where I could skip over the scary, non-Lee parts.  I might be worth it just to watch Lee (or maybe I should say "Mr. Tergesen," heh) in a kick-ass knife fight.

There are short vids on People.com, and one from LABryinth Celeb Charades - you'll recognize the shirt from guh, these pics here.

No option to embed it, so here's the link: Meloni Waxes Eloquent about Snow in NYC.

It's like a blanket, you know? )

Watch This/Sorry About That on EntertainmentWeekly.com
By Dan Snierson

Watch This
Gym Teacher: The Movie (Sept. 12, 8 p.m.)
Meloni plays a disgraced Olympic gymnast-turned-obsessive phys-ed instructor who tries to win Gym Teacher of the Year by transforming a nerd into a jock.

Me: SQUEEEE! September 12th! Gym Teacher! Much-needed Meloni fix!

Meloni: "It's a mélange of humor — broad, physical, and more subtle stuff. It has Amy Sedaris and [director] Paul Dinello from Strangers With Candy, and that kind of absurdist, edgy comedy shoehorned into a kids' comedy is like the best of the Warner Bros. cartoons: It works on two levels — adults and kids can enjoy it. Also, I wear shorts a lot. Truly, the only reason why I took the project is because in almost every scene, my character is in shorts. That's worth the price of admission right there."

Me: HELL YES IT IS.

Sorry About That
1st & Ten (HBO, 1984-91)
From 1989 to 1990, Meloni played ex-con QB Vito Del Greco (a.k.a. Johnny Gunn) on this racy football comedy.

Me: LOL. What a premise.

Meloni: "This was a T&A show dressed up in bad comedy and occasionally they'd try to wedge in some drama, which really didn't fly. Look, O.J. Simpson was the general manager of the football team: What more can I say? It was my first job. I was trying to 'figure out my character' and I put way too much hot sauce on this week-old, cold pupu platter. When you're a starving, marginally employed actor, any job is a great job, and I felt I could make it better, and... that's just not the case."

Me: I've only seen screencaps from this show, but maybe if he'd showed off the "A" a little more, it would have helped... Also, his MAD MOP of BUSHY HAIR totally throws me.

[From http://www.treehugger.com/]
...No more bottled water on the set of Law & Order: SVU. Actor Chris Meloni banned the waste and bought everyone reusable plastic bottles.

"It makes a big difference," reveals his co-star Mariska Hargitay, "Two hundred or so people work on the show and everybody used to drink 5 or 6 bottles daily - so that's a lot of bottles."

Dawwwwwwwwwww, he's gorgeous and eco-friendly. I feel their carbon footprints getting smaller already.
